Propio Interpreter Services
How to connect a live interpreter during a Zoom visit for patients who need language assistance.

Propio ONE is a Zoom app that connects you with a live professional interpreter in seconds — right inside your active meeting. This guide covers everything you need: when to use it, how to connect, best practices during interpretation, and how to end the session cleanly.

01   Quick Start

Already in a Zoom meeting and need an interpreter now? Follow these five steps.

Connect an Interpreter in 5 Steps

1
In your active Zoom meeting, click Apps in the bottom toolbar.
2
Under My Apps, select Propio ONE.
3
The Invite Interpreter panel opens. The Access Code and Join Link will be pre-filled — do not change them.
4
Use the Language dropdown to select the patient's language, then click Connect to Interpreter.
5
When the success message appears, click Close to return to your session. The interpreter is now in the call.
Response time: Most interpreter connections complete within 30–60 seconds. Stay on the call — the interpreter will join automatically.

📋
Market Operations
Use Propio on scheduling calls, outreach calls, or any Zoom-based patient communication where a language barrier is present. If a patient indicates they need language assistance during a call, connect Propio before continuing.

Your Organization Access Code

This code is pre-loaded into the Propio ONE app and will appear automatically when you open the Invite Interpreter panel. Keep this for reference:

1
Confirm the Access Code shows DwZNgW. If it's blank, do not proceed — contact your Peregrine support contact.
2
Open the Language dropdown and select the patient's language. For most patients this will be Spanish.
3
Click Connect to Interpreter.

Step 4 — Confirmation & Returning to Your Session

After clicking Connect, Propio will display a success confirmation:

PROPIO ONE
You have successfully connected with an interpreter.
Please click the Close button to return to your session.

The success screen. Click Close — the interpreter is now joining the meeting in the background.

Click Close to dismiss the Propio panel and return to your active meeting. The interpreter will join the call within a few seconds. You'll see them appear as a new participant.

Let the patient know: Briefly tell the patient an interpreter will be joining momentarily. This prevents confusion when a new voice enters the call.

04   Best Practices

Working with a live interpreter requires a slightly different communication style. These practices ensure clear, accurate interpretation.

Speaking with a Patient Through an Interpreter

What the Interpreter Will and Will Not Do

The Interpreter WillThe Interpreter Will Not
Interpret everything said accurately and impartiallySummarize, paraphrase, or skip content
Maintain confidentialityGive their personal opinion or advice
Interpret for all parties in the callSpeak on behalf of the patient outside the session
Alert you if clarification is neededMake clinical decisions or recommendations
Interpreter availability: Propio connects to live human interpreters 24/7 for over 200 languages. For rare languages, connection may take slightly longer than for common ones like Spanish.

05   Ending the Session

The interpreter session ends when the Zoom meeting ends. There is no separate disconnect step required.

How It Works

When you end or leave the Zoom meeting, the Propio interpreter connection closes automatically. You do not need to reopen the Propio panel or take any additional action.

If You Need to End Early

If you need to dismiss the interpreter before the meeting ends (for example, if a different interpreter is needed or the connection is poor):

1
Click Apps in the Zoom toolbar.
2
Open Propio ONE.
3
Follow the prompts to end the interpreter session, or remove the interpreter from Participants if needed.
Session documentation: Propio logs all interpreter sessions in your organization's account. You do not need to document the interpreter connection separately in your notes unless your clinical workflow requires it.

06   Frequently Asked Questions

I don't see Propio ONE in my Apps panel. What do I do?

The app should be pre-installed under your Peregrine Zoom account. If it's missing, click Add Apps in the Apps panel and search for "Propio ONE," or contact your Peregrine support contact to have it added to your account.

The Access Code field is blank. Can I still connect?

No — do not proceed without the access code. It authenticates your organization's account with Propio. Contact your Peregrine support contact, who can confirm the code is configured correctly for your account.

How long does it take to connect an interpreter?

Most connections complete within 30–60 seconds for high-demand languages like Spanish. Less common languages may take slightly longer. You'll see the interpreter appear as a participant when they join.

The patient speaks a language I can't find in the dropdown. What do I do?

Propio supports over 200 languages. Scroll through the dropdown — it is extensive. If the language is truly not listed, contact Propio directly via your organization's account for guidance on rare language requests.

Can I use Propio for in-person clinic visits?

Propio ONE is a Zoom-based service. For in-person visits requiring interpretation, use your clinic's standard interpretation protocol. Contact your market operations contact for guidance on in-person language services.

What if the interpreter connection drops mid-visit?

Return to the Propio ONE app panel, end the current session if prompted, and reconnect by selecting the language and clicking Connect to Interpreter again. Most reconnections happen within 30 seconds.

Is patient information shared with Propio?

No patient PHI is transmitted through the Propio app itself — only the meeting access link is shared. Interpreters follow HIPAA confidentiality standards and are bound by professional non-disclosure requirements. Do not share patient names, MRNs, or other identifiers directly with the interpreter unless required for the visit.
